Concept

Concept TG Transformational Governance

Enables an organization to take responsibility for its actions and serves to increase its ability to behave in a socially responsible manner.

5 objectives · 11 activities

Scientific research indicates that a society's health hinges on several key elements27. Resilience, which encompasses the ability to adapt and withstand crises, is bolstered by diversity and learning. Equally important are shared values and the ability for self-organization. However, the foundation of all these elements is trust. Trust is crucial, as it is linked to reduced corruption, democratic stability, and economic equality. Greater equality correlates with a reduction in many societal ills (e.g., suicide, drug abuse, obesity, violence).28 29

SEAM's approach reflects this understanding. In TG01: Education + Awareness, the focus is on reinforcing resilience, shared values, and learning. TG02: Voluntary Initiatives aligns with external social responsibility frameworks to enhance adaptability and crisis resilience. Meanwhile, TG03: Site-Specific Fair Operating Practices aims to build trust, vital for societal health.

The effectiveness of these Transformational Governance activities is measured using proxy indicators. These are indirect metrics that, while not directly measuring the desired outcome, are closely related to it. This approach is necessary when direct measurement is unobservable and/or unavailable.
